Journal Entry: Sun Sep 7, 2008, 7:24 AM
Well 12 days until the end of my subscription. Will I renew? Possibly since I feel rich atm. :P But will it be worth it? Probably not. But I shall try and make myself have an empty message + deviation inbox by the time it runs out. :D go go go

Yay Macbook back in action

Journal Entry: Sat May 31, 2008, 12:17 AM
Been using Ubuntu for the past couple of days because my Macbook charger decided to die on me, meaning I haven't been able to use it. Which was a real hassle because I scanned around 80 photos and couldn't upload them since I didn't have access to them. :P

I think this is a sign I'm due for an upgrade. Maybe at the end of the year. Went out and spent $120 on a charger today. So at least now it works. :D Battery lasts 2 hours max, which isn't bad for a 2 year old laptop.

Pretty disappointed with the scans. I need to learn how to focus faster wide open. Curse my bad eyes. :crying: From what I've seen people do with slide film it's a lot nicer. The sharpness and grain anyway. The lack of daylight savings means that it gets darker faster though which = faster film. Annoying because my Velvia and Etka-something E100VS (The Kodak slide film. Too lazy to look up how to spell it) are both 100 ISO meaning I NEED LIGHT!

Whoops

Journal Entry: Thu May 29, 2008, 4:42 AM
I can see why I no-one in my family has been using my Voigtlander. :P The clips that keep the back closed point out and I accidentally pushed them when shooting. Got the negs back today and have lots of light leaks because of this. Oh joy. >_>

I need some serious retail therapy as usual. :crying:

Monies cost so much money.

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 26, 2008, 8:37 PM
I think the lack of job is really starting to kill me. :P Friggin bank charges me $2.50 per withdrawl. I need to find a new bank.

I also need a light meter. You know how friggin annoying and stupid you feel to carry around a camera around your neck for the sole purpose of metering? :P Lousy slide film...so unforgiving.

Need to save up for Oct so I can go crazy and buy lots of stuff and fulfil my consumerist desires if that even makes sense this sentence is way too long can your mind take a breath? Xp

I Want A Rangefinder

It's red and yellow...where the pink and green and purple and orange and blue? Probably all there too, I just can't count.

*cough cough*

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2008, 4:30 AM
I'm still coughing which really really sucks. Stupid itchy throat.

Anyway, I've decided it's probably best to upload SOMETHING since it'd be wasting my oh so precious subscription.

Quite pissed off at my uni pharmacy. The negs I just scanned from there have some back pretty screwed. About 25% of the shots are just weird. I don't know if it's bad developing or just my camera. BUT the negs also came back squashed in a film container and some of it was ripped. Grrr!

On top of that they charge 50c more than where I usually go in the city and I have to wait 2(!!!!!!!!!) days before I even get them back. Booo.

Updateness

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 1, 2008, 5:39 AM
What has happened in the last 9 days...hmm....well I've had Uni holidays. Go back tomorrow. :(

Found out a red filter + 50 ISO film only really works in REALLY sunny conditions. Which is was UNTIL I put the film into my camera. :P At least f1.2 helps speed things up a tad.

Got an EOS 5. :)

Pauline + EOS 5...and me. =]

Look at those scratches on the negs. = Not happy about them. grr...

For once I actually feel fine about the cameras I have. Which is a good thing since no more spending. :P At least until Oct. ;) I still want a few lenses but I'll only get them unless I can get them for a good price. e.g. I got my EOS 5 50% less than what most people/the guy at the photography market was asking.

Eye control focus is such a gimmick. Good for portraits, crap for the streets since it's not as fast or precise as just picking a focus point. And I may have to do some tests since a few of my shots have been out of focus...well quite a few. I don't if that was due to the eye control or just me moving but yeah. I'll use it for "special" things now.

Anyway time to go do some work since friggin holidays only last 1 week and although my next holidays will be nice and long, I have to go through exams to get there. :crying:

UPDATE

Mm..April Fools. I'll probably wait until all the mudkips go away before I bother checking anything on dA. :P

Woo a scanner!

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 15, 2008, 7:08 PM
I finally got around to it and purchased an Epson V500 to scan my film so I don't get ripped off again. Last time was the final straw. grrr...

Anyhoo I tested it out just now and I've found I'll need to be using Photoshop if I want to get the most out of the negative, or else it'll come out looking pretty flat. (The BW400CN negs I tried did anyway) This was comparing my scan to that of a "pro" lab.

Now to those of you who scan your own film what settings do you use? I'm so lost as to what dpi etc. :P

Yeah I seem to be a lot more into Flickr than dA at the moment. Don't know why. I don't think it's because Flickr is any better, it's just dA is losing my attention.

Or it could be that dA seems to be more portrait orientation whilst Flickr is street? Well for photography anyway.

It's friggin hot as here and I have the hottest room in the house since I face the sun. :( I'm hopefully going to pick up a scanner tomorrow. I'm committed to it! Since the damn place charged me too much last time. >=[ Grr...

In other news, I want to try Velvia but it's $20 a roll. :crying: So expensive. :( And I'm broke. *sniff sniff*

dA Wierdness

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 7, 2008, 4:52 AM
I've started to notice that dA doesn't like to show my pics as well as Flickr does. I think the site compresses the pic a bit more so the quality is less. :P This sucks. e.g. Go to my latest upload (Copycat one) and view the dA photo vs the "View On Black". Is it just me or does the one on black look better, not just because it's on black of course.

Maybe I'm just nuts. :P I want a Nikon F3hp and a rangefinder. Either a Bessa or a Leica. *tear* Which one to choose.

Stocked Up and Good to Go

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 29, 2008, 1:12 AM
First week of Uni over. :P So tiring. Not much happening really. I travel through the city on Mon, Tues and Thurs nights go get home so this should make for some good night shots. :)

Received $96 worth of film today, so hopefully that'll tie me over for a while. Whilst it might seem like a lot, I saved over 50% since it was part of a large order from B&H with other people. Film here is so expensive.

I have a feeling I'm going to be procrastinating this weekend. Oh joy...>_>

Uni Life

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 21, 2008, 6:04 AM
Orientation for my Uni has now finish. Has been real good fun. Met lots of new people, made some new friends. All is well. :D Had to go to double the orientation though since I'm at 2 campuses. :P

They had a marketing manager who had the same speech at both campuses, so when he came to a part where he asked "Now why are we here?" he was meant to wait for a short pause and ask the audience. Yesterday we spent around 10 min trying to figure out the answer and since I was hungry I just decided to shout out "TO GET A JOB!" and then he goes "BINGO!", finishes up and I am 10 minutes closer to lunch. :D

In other news, I've picked up a Zuiko 55mm f/1.2 lens for my Olympus OM-4. Hopefully that'll gimmie some nice shots if I can get the focus right. :) I managed to haggle about $100 off what they were asking so I was so tempted to buy I did. :P It's a really rare lens and wasn't made for very long since apparently the first batch was slightly "radioactive". Oh joy...>_>

Spending Habits @__@

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 11, 2008, 12:34 AM
Well I've become somewhat film obsessed after getting all mine finally scanned and loving the look. :D

I picked up a nice little Rolleiflex T today as a nice way to get into Medium Format photog apart from a Holga. :) Has been good fun playing around with. The Hassleblad I tried was soo cool and not "too" expensive, but how cheap can they really get. :P I think when I get a nice job I'll pick one up. Which will be in years to come.

Will get a pic of it since I need a damn new id. :P

In other news, Valentines day this Thurs. Good or bad? Excited? Meh? Commercial waste of time? Possibly all of the above. That wouldn't make sense since it can't be good AND bad but then again, neither does Happy New Nuts. >_> (Something someone said to me the other day)

Oh yeah, Happy Late Chinese New Year for all you asians out there. :)

Yay Arrived!

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 5, 2008, 2:11 AM
Well to start off the bday went pretty good. Making 6 CD's for her now. :P This is probably the most tedious part.

Haven't really been doing much this week. Been using up my film. Have around 10 shots to go on my 120 HP5, 6 shots on my 35mm 400VC and I have yet to start a 120 400NC.

I went into a store today and saw a Holga CFN for $145!! I got my 120N for only $55. Granted it doesn't have a built in flash but the hot shoe supports my 430ex without batteries so that's fine. (Even though it does like slightly odd)

My softbox diffuser and eBay triggers finally arrived. Seem to do a good job of what they're meant to do apart from the fact that sometimes the flash goes off by itself. This only seems to be when it's warming up so that's ok. :)

I've figured our that dev + scanning is going to cost possibly between $20 - $30 PER ROLL! Argh. Count how many rolls I have above and add 1 Ilford Delta and that's my cost. I need a proper job...or at least more photog ones.

Tonight's the night

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 1, 2008, 5:26 PM
Well at the moment I'm kind of worried about my photog job tonight. Basically all I'm needed to do is take photos of a 50th bday which wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the fact the woman hiring me is DAMN scary. :crying:

Ykno those people who speak really loud and fast and you don't know if you understand them and then they look like they'll rip you off in price. >_> Well the point is that's what's bad.

That and the fact I wonder if I should shoot RAW or jpeg. If I shoot RAW I'll probably run out of space since I'll be using 2 cameras and have 3 2GB cards. 150 shots per card you do the math. Jpeg I get around 500(?) per card so yeah. I'm only really getting $30 an hour and they said they'd only need me for around 3 hours so that's $90. I can get another 2GB card for roughly $69 but meh. I'll bring my laptop just incase.

Also I went out and picked up a Holga. Haven't used it yet since I still need to go out and get some gaffer tape to prevent light leaks. That and the fact I still have around 30 shots of Portra 400VC to go.

Developing all my film + scanning is going to kill me. :P I need a scanner.
